Yalda Night
Yalda Night, also known as Shabe Yalda, is a cherished Persian tradition that marks the winter solstice, the longest night of the year. This ancient celebration is filled with hope, joy, and togetherness, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness and the promise of a brighter future.
On Yalda Night, families and friends gather to make this otherwise cold winter night warm and delightful. They stay up late, sharing stories and reading poems, and enjoy their time.
The night is also marked by the eating of specific fruits, each holding symbolic meanings. Watermelon is believed to protect observers from illness during the winter season. Pomegranates, abundant with seeds, symbolize prosperity and fertility, and blessings for a new life. The vibrant red color of these fruits symbolizes the dawn, bringing brightness and joy into the long night.
Join us to celebrate this night together on Friday, December 20, 2024.
